Stablecoin supply matches Ethereum's $304 billion value

Stablecoin supply and Ethereum's market cap met on October 9, 2026. Stablecoin Beat's tracker put outstanding dollar-tokens at $303.9 billion. CoinGecko, updated at 7:00 p.m. Eastern, put Ethereum's market cap at $303.8 billion. The two readings sit about $130 million apart, under a tenth of one percent of either figure.

A market cap, for Ethereum, is the price times the coins in circulation. CoinGecko's print used $2,487.23 and a circulating supply of 122.12 million ETH. The coin ranked second on that tape, behind bitcoin. The number moves when the price moves. A one percent change in the ETH price is about $3 billion of market cap, more than twenty times the gap between these two readings. The tie is a snapshot. It is not a peg, and it is not a forecast.

Stablecoin supply is a different kind of count. It is the dollar value of tokens meant to stay near one dollar, taken at par. It is not a price investors bid in an order book the way they bid ETH. Stablecoin Beat's October 9 tracker, which follows 308 coins, is the reading that lands on $303.9 billion. The same desk's base-supply cut printed $297.7 billion the same day. InsideCrypto's snapshot was $310.9 billion. StableCoin.com showed $291.1 billion. Equal to Ethereum is true of the $303.9 billion print. It is not true of every board a reader can open.

Tether is most of the stack on the tracker that matches. Stablecoin Beat put USDT at $184.1 billion, 60.6 percent of the $303.9 billion. USDC was $73.0 billion, 24.0 percent. The next names are smaller: USDS at $10.1 billion, Ethena's USDe at $4.8 billion, and DAI at $4.6 billion. The two largest coins are about 85 percent of that board. A mint or a redemption in USDT or USDC moves the total more than a move in the rest of the list.

Where the tokens sit is the part a one-line comparison leaves out. The match is every stablecoin, on every chain, against the market value of ETH the asset. It is not the stablecoins that live on Ethereum. Stablecoin Beat counted $147.2 billion of stablecoins on Ethereum itself, about 48 percent of the networks it covers, with $73.4 billion of that in USDT and $45.3 billion in USDC. InsideCrypto's chain table put Ethereum at $145.9 billion and Tron at $93.9 billion. CryptoBriefing, citing DefiLlama on October 9, put Ethereum near $146.5 billion and said the all-chain total has been holding between $300 billion and $306 billion. About half of the dollar-tokens are on Ethereum. The other half, led by Tron, is what lets the all-chain total reach ETH's market cap while the coins on Ethereum do not.

The week under the tie was quiet on the stablecoin side. Stablecoin Beat's $303.9 billion was down 0.26 percent over seven days, and USDC accounted for most of that slip. The DefiLlama read CryptoBriefing used had Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Base adding $403 million of stablecoin supply in the week, with Ethereum adding about $243 million of it. A few hundred million on a $304 billion stack does not break the comparison. An ordinary day in the ETH price can.

The same Friday had a different Ethereum number on the fund tape. Lookonchain's card showed the spot Ethereum ETFs redeeming 38,576 ETH, priced at $96.2 million, with a seven-day total of $515.41 million out. That is money leaving the wrapper. It is not a change in stablecoin supply, and it should not be added to the $303.9 billion. The two prints share a day and a coin. They do not share a meaning. That story is here: https://cryptokeymedia.com/news/bitcoin-ether-etf-outflows

What comes next is the next print of both numbers. Ethereum's market cap will move with the next price. The stablecoin total will move when tokens are minted or redeemed, and it will look different on a tracker that counts a different set of coins. The October 9 pair that matches is Stablecoin Beat's $303.9 billion and CoinGecko's $303.8 billion. Until those two boards print again, that is the tie.

Before the cash open.

The tape, before the cash open. One email. The note itself has the way off the list.
