Ethereum ETFs shed $542 million in a week

U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs finished Friday, October 9, 2026, with a ninth straight day of money leaving. The Block put the week's net outflow at $542.1 million and called it the worst week since January. A Farside print of the same five sessions, October 5 through October 9, is $542.2 million. Either figure is the week, not Friday alone.

A net outflow is creations minus redemptions for the funds as a group. A negative day means authorized participants handed shares back and coins left the wrapper. It is not a market order on an exchange, and it is not a claim that every holder sold. One session can be noise. Nine sessions in a row is a streak.

October is the clean part of the streak. The funds have not posted a green session in the month. The October prints on the SoSoValue table are red on every trading day so far: about $55.4 million out on October 1, $37.4 million on October 2, $50.8 million on October 5, $201.9 million on October 6, $160.9 million on October 7, $72.5 million on October 8, and $56.1 million on October 9. Those five sessions from October 5 are the $542.2 million week. The first two October days sit outside that week and are still red.

The streak is older than the month. SoSoValue's daily table is negative from September 29 through October 9, which is nine trading days. September 29 was about $2.8 million out. September 30 was about $59.6 million out. Then October took over. Bloomingbit's sum of that nine-day run is $697.18 million. Farside's figure for the same span is $697.4 million. The week is most of the streak. It is not the whole streak.

Friday was the small end of a large week. SoSoValue's October 9 total is $56.1 million out, and BlackRock's ETHA was the only fund with a flow that day. The day before was $72.5 million out. Tuesday, October 6, was the heavy session, at $201.9 million, and that day ETHA was the entire category. Across the five sessions, TokenPost's reading of the same board puts $477.1 million of the $542.2 million on ETHA. The other funds were quiet by comparison. One issuer carried the week.

This desk already has a different Friday number, and it should stay labeled. Lookonchain's October 9 card priced the Ethereum redemption at 38,576 ETH, or $96.2 million, and a seven-day total of $515.41 million. SoSoValue and Farside price Friday at $56.1 million and the Monday-to-Friday week at $542.2 million. The windows are not the same seven days, and the boards do not count the same way. Both can be cited. They cannot be added. That card is here: https://cryptokeymedia.com/news/bitcoin-ether-etf-outflows

The week does not empty the funds. SoSoValue's October 9 snapshot still shows $15.71 billion in net assets and $13.26 billion of cumulative net inflows since launch. A red week is holders leaving the wrapper. It is not the wrapper closing. ETHA alone still held about $8.64 billion on that snapshot. The share is a fund share. The coins sit with the funds. What a spot ETF is, as a share rather than a coin, is the definition this desk already filed.

The Block's post pairs the Ethereum week with a Solana line: Solana ETFs lost $24.8 million and ended a 14-week inflow streak. That is a different set of funds. It does not change the Ethereum arithmetic, and it should not be folded into the $542.2 million.

What comes next is Tuesday, October 13. Monday, October 12, is a market holiday, so the funds do not print a session. The streak stays at nine until Tuesday's creations and redemptions are published. A green Tuesday ends it. Another red day makes it ten. The number that matters until then is the one already on the week: $542.2 million out, and no green session in October.

The tape, before the cash open. One email. The note itself has the way off the list.
